About Us
'The mission of Baraboo Area Senior Center (BASCO) is to provide a place where adults age 50 and older can meet together to pursue mutual interests, receive educational and nutritional information, participatein social and recreational activities that will enhance thair dignity, support their independence and encourage their continued involvement in and with the community".
BASCO is now an Accredited Senior Center. We received accreditation February 2009 from the Wisconsin Association of Senior Centers (WASC).
BASCO is an outgrowth of the local AARP group that existed in Baraboo in the late 90's. Discussions about the possibility of forming a Senior Center began in the late 90's.
The Senior Center began operation in Sept 2001 in Room 24 at the Civic Center, Baraboo 53913.
Basco was incorporated in 2002, and received its 501(c)(3) status in 2003.
The Center began with a membership of 50 people and presently has over 200 members.
The Center has expanded into two rooms and has a variety of activities for the members. These include quilting, computer classes, watercolor painting, woodcarving, creative writing, singing, Family Tree Maker, Zumba, and various card playing groups.
Since BASCO does not receive County or City funding, the City of Baraboo allows us the use of two rooms rent free. The Center now hires a part time Director. Throughout the year members participate in many different fund-raisers to sustain our organization.
